Month 1 - Preparation and determination

In this period, you will have to decide on a day (0) to stop smoking forever. Before doing this, you may wish to give yourself 1-2 weeks (7-14 days), but pick a day 0, to call it quits forever. Then on day 0, you will be issued with a Champix script.

Be prepared for withdrawal, but persist through, and you will see improvements as early as day 4. In general, though, symptoms do not entirely stop for several weeks. However, having the proper treatment will help you manage your symptoms. Typically, if you make it through the first 8 days smoke-free, it's the best indicator of long-term success.

Month 2 - Seal your success

At this point, withdrawal symptoms may have passed. Some studies* also show that continuing treatment for 7-12 weeks results in the best long-term success. The second month is an excellent time for you to rebuild healthy habits around certain places and situations which would trigger you to smoke.

Month 3 - Support to stay a non-smoker

After three months, some people may be smoke-free and ready to discontinue treatment. However, suppose you feel you need further treatment or have the urge to return to cigarettes. In that case, there is an option to potentially continue treatment through a renewal visit with your doctor.
